After completing a PhD in chemistry at Swansea University, my professional career started in 1987 at ICI Paints, who were the largest chemical company in the UK at the time. I started as a development chemist, working on water-based products for Volvo Cars. In 1990 ICI sold its automotive division to the US company, DuPont, and I transferred to Bonn in Germany where I worked in production improving the quality and consistency of the automotive coating products, working very closely with Toyota Cars in the UK.
In the late 90s DuPont followed GE in adopting Lean Six Sigma as a methodology for improving process efficiency and increasing revenue, and I was selected as a candidate for Green Belt training. I went through Black Belt training in Wuppertal, Germany and Master Black Belt training at DuPont’s HQ in Wilmington, Delaware in 2005. I continued working with automotive customers such as McLaren, Aston Martin, Lotus Cars and Scania Trucks and taught Lean Six Sigma internally within DuPont. I transferred to the automotive refinish division in 2013 as UK Technical Manager, working with large body-shop groups and insurance companies to improve their productivity and profitability.
I left DuPont in 2016 to work as an independent consultant, mainly within the automotive industry optimising product selection and performance, always using the Lean Six Sigma experience I had gained at DuPont.
I am a keen follower of most sports, especially football and rugby union and I play golf and touch rugby.
